The pictures were taken February 14, 1998 during one of the winter's el Nino driven rainstorms. They illustrate some of the drainage and grading problems which need to be fixed before the track can be resurfaced.
In the middle of the picture near the public address speaker is one of the long jump pits. When the field is irrigated, seagulls like to visit the puddle in the long jump pit. Percolation drains must be installed under the long jump pits. |
Surface runoff from the surrounding schoolyard flows onto the track.
This must be fixed by both grading and the installation of gutters and drains.
The existing track must be excavated and filled with crushed rock to provide
good drainage before paving with asphalt. |
The back corner at Thousand Oaks High School Field is where the 200
meter staggered start happens. |
This is the front straightaway. Even after several days of no rain,
this big puddle had not dried up. During the season's first Thousand Oaks
Flyers practices, volunteers were digging holes in the track and pumping
out water with a sump pump. |
